Interview with Jeanie:  The AZUL Dress That Changed Everything

- OnlydivaSL:  What date or period in your professional career does the outfit date back to?

-  Jeanie Waydelich: This dress was a gift for the blog back in 2010, but its meaning goes far beyond a simple piece of clothing.

 - OnlydivaSL: Did you create it for a specific purpose, such as a contest, blog, magazine...?

-  Jeanie Waydelich: It was a Saturday night, and I was wandering through the Azul store, daydreaming. At the time, I was a beginner blogger — full of passion, but with very limited resources. I worked alongside my dear friend Lucyanni Writer on Live2Life, the first Brazilian fashion blog in Second Life. One of our major sponsors was Kunglers, another amazing partner to this day — but I’ll save that story for another time!

I was mesmerized by the photo wall of Miss Azul contestants. I started chatting with someone nearby — and to my surprise, it was Kay Fairey! I told her I would love to enter the contest, but I lacked all the basic requirements: no modeling course, no professional photo, and no resources. I explained that, if I were to win, I would invest the prize in a modeling course.

Kay listened attentively. And then, in a gesture of generosity that changed my journey, she gifted me this blue dress. She told me it was brand new, now mine, and that I could blog it. I was speechless. I took the best photo I could with my limited tools. Then I asked her if I could use the photo to apply for Miss Azul — and she said yes.

Even though I knew very little about runway techniques, she offered to teach me how to use HUDs in case I advanced to the next stage. On the day of the contest, I went to watch the selected contestants walk the runway, admiring every detail. Then suddenly... I heard my name being announced as Azul Princess. My world turned upside down — in the best way possible!

Since then, in every contest I’ve participated in, my formal gown has always been from Azul, as a tribute to that life-changing moment. The only exception was Miss SL, because at the time, my mentor Mami was going through real-life difficulties, and I didn’t want to be one more burden.

- OnlydivaSL:  Why do you love this dress so much?

-  Jeanie Waydelich: This dress holds deep symbolism. It was a gift from one of SL’s great icons, Kay Fairey, and with it, I won my first major contest. Every time I wear it, I’m reminded of how a single act of kindness can change a life. It’s my lucky charm — my token of fulfilled dreams.

- OnlydivaSL: Tell us which brands you used and why.

-  Jeanie Waydelich: In 2010, I styled it with earrings by Kunglers, a bronzed skin from Ys&Ys (it was the trend at the time!), and hair that I believe was from Magika or Truth. For the restyled version used in Miss Azul 2015, I chose Vanity Hair, and accessories from Alienbear, a legendary jewelry brand among Misses from 2009 to 2013, before the mesh era.

 - OnlydivaSL: What challenges did you face and how did you solve them?

-  Jeanie Waydelich: My biggest challenge until 2016 was always technical — computers with little memory and weak graphics cards. But I never let that stop me. I did my best with what I had, and that determination was crucial to my growth. Once I got a better machine, nothing could hold me back in SL!

- OnlydivaSL:  How did you know the look was ready?

-  Jeanie Waydelich: I just knew when I looked at myself and thought, “Yes, I would totally wear this to a ball at Versailles!” It felt like I was starring in one of those breathtaking perfume commercials — and when you get that feeling, you know the styling is just right.

- OnlydivaSL:  What did you learn from creating this outfit, personally and professionally?

-  Jeanie Waydelich: I learned that less is more, and that details make all the difference. In 2010, the standout was the striking touch of the Kunglers earrings. In 2015, it was the subtle elegance of the overall composition.

- OnlydivaSL: If you had to choose one emotion to define this outfit, what would it be?

-  Jeanie Waydelich: Dream.
This dress represents the fulfillment of a dream that once seemed so far away — but came true through kindness, effort, and passion.

- OnlydivaSL: What advice would you give to someone who feels blocked or doesn’t know how to begin styling?

-  Jeanie Waydelich: Whenever I feel uninspired, I turn to the real world: fashion magazines, perfume commercials, films. They’re endless sources of beauty and emotion. Then I dive into Flickr and SL networks — there are thousands of brilliant ideas waiting to be discovered! The key is to remember: style doesn’t begin with the outfit — it begins with the feeling you want to express.

Thank you very much Jeanie for your time, you have been very kind.
