Confessions of a DIVA on a HOT ROOF | Chapter #1

Chapter #1

Beautiful Faces before MESH

Flickr, is undoubtedly a window to the past, present and perhaps the future of Second Life.

I've been looking around for a while, reviewing those photos of yesteryear that give so much nostalgia and observing here and there, I could observe “Something” that could physically define the golden age of modeling in Second Life:

“We were all clones without many differences”.

Of course there were variables, but the vast majority of us were an oval head, a snub nose, a big or small mouth (depending on the fashion of the year) and a body molded by a Notecard with values, which we were given in modeling schools, to achieve a “Perfect” model body, which was nothing more than an anorexic, tall, with long legs like a flamingo.

The possibilities of varying that first body with which we were born in second life, were very scarce. Some of us managed to distinguish ourselves with a well-made skin. There were not so many good skin designers, there were one or two that became fashionable, and so all the models walked at the same time with the Andrea skin in bronze tone, another with the Andrea skin in pale tone and blond hair, another one was a redhead with the Andrea skin in Sorbet tone, until another good or better skin came out, and we changed skin.

We were rough avatars, square, jolotones, stunned... but we looked at each other with love and blindly believed in the beauty of those stylized Quasimodos.
If today we compare these rustic avatars, with the perfection of the smooth and curved lines of the Mesh and the variety of factions of the different heads, added to the amount of values that we can vary, we can see a clear and obvious evolution in the beauty of the Second Life models.

Today we can see faces as beautiful as Lolita Paragorn's or see a man as beautiful and well sculpted as Daniel Salvatores Salvetti... (Papucho!) And there is no doubt that today offers a thousand different options, and being beautiful or very beautiful in second life, is purely a question of “Education of the eye”, there are no longer resource limitations.

I have to say it by force, there are people who love to ruin avatars. Let's recognize our strengths and weaknesses, this is important when creating an avatar. If you are not good at proportions DON'T TOUCH A SHAPE just buy it and NO, don't insist on touching it. Then we see in the world every loose character out there, existing lost in the ignorance of their ungraceful appearance...

Back in 2017, it was the time in Second Life when the most beautiful avatars existed. And there was only one reason for this: We could not vary the values of the Mesh heads at that time. We were forced to use a head forged by a person with a “well educated eye” (creator) and the great variety of skins proposals, prevented us all to look the same.

But well, today I wanted to bring you a collection of the “Beauty of yesterday” in second Life, where making a beautiful avatar, was a HUGE challenge... And yet, some succeeded and it was a pleasure to see them parade with those beautiful avatars.

At this point of the roads, I think I personally have “Some eye more educated than the other” because for some strange reason I have been invited on numerous occasions to be a judge in beauty and styling contests. This has encouraged me to share with you my Top 10 of the most beautiful avatars of the golden age of Modeling in Second Life.
BEAUTIFUL, beautiful, handsome... not stylists. They are separate things. For this, without a doubt, we would have to make another list, but the ones mentioned here, have also been great stylists.

My Top 10 most beautiful avatars of the golden age of Second Life in alphabetical order:
Chachacha channnnnnnnn...

Anna Saphire

For some people Anna was not a beautiful avatar. She was judged many times to have a manly and indelicate face. Certainly at some point she exaggerated her features a lot, but she was one of the few of the time who dared to show off a square face, with a prominent jaw and the “dominant” lips with downturned corners, those “Bitter Lips” that if I'm not mistaken were made fashionable by Mimy Boa, another Diva lady who undoubtedly set trends. I saw many avatars in Second Life, trying to make their own version of Anna Saphire.

Blackliquid Tokyoska

Blackliquid was another girl with a beautiful face, where in the contrast of her very small features, tiny nose, very small mouth, almost nonexistent eyebrows, her huge black and bright eyes stood out. With an almost pale skin, her avatar was almost mystical, ethereal. In spite of changes of skins, even with the arrival of the Mesh, she has kept these features so characteristic of her

Carley Bennazi

A true ebony Goddess. Her face was made by her sleepy, sensual eyes and her extremely full-lipped mouth. She herself looked extremely sexy within the frame of elegance that a model avatar must have had in those times.

Liam Netizen

He surely made many girls sigh with his impeccable face. Liam was one of the first handsome guys in Second Life. A proportionally balanced face that showed us an avatar between “Mucho Macho” and “Very Bad”, which made him finally “Very Sexy”.

Luigi Caesar Langer

Luigi decided to incarnate a perfect boy face. His face was sweet, with fine and delicate features. I always looked at him as a kind of mix between Ricky Martin and Andrea Casiraghi. He was a real magnet on the catwalk, in his photo shoots wherever he went, there were a lot of eyes on him. (Before many people in Second Life didn't know you could hide your eyes.)

Ponchituti Boucher

Everyone in Second Life used to say that when they met Ponchita, they couldn't stop zooming in on her beautiful face. She was the Cindy Crawford of those times. An avatar with intense Latin features and eyes that seemed to be alive on their own. She had a strong look, almost angry! and it seemed that she always had a grape in her mouth, or that she was always ready to send us a kiss. This contrast of strong and playful features resulted in one of the most successful avatar in Second Life.

Serene Faith

Like her name, her face showed a serene, harmonious beauty and emphasized her Asian features with great skill. She made many changes of skins, maybe shape... and the result was always truly charming. Her face conveyed peace, confidence, faith...

Tania Tebaldi

Tania managed to create an avatar with a face of classic beauty. A somnolent look that gave her a superb elegance and a rectangular face that nobody, or almost nobody had in the second life of that time. She looked haughty, extremely confident, even conceited, conceited, like a royal personage.

Tyra Eireen

The avatar that all designers were looking for in their vendors was undoubtedly Tyra Eireen. It was impossible not to see her in the photos, when she was on the catwalk, when you coincided with her. A perfect face, perfect proportions, a triangular rather than oval face and her extremely slanted eyes, like a sexy kitten. It should be noted that “the educated eye” seems to be something genetic, because both she and her brother Daniel Salvatore, have achieved extremely beautiful and memorable avatars. There were many models who imitated her features.
I had a hard time getting pictures of her, because her accounts were totally deleted, a real treasure of memories erased.

World Undercroft

A combination between an angel fallen from the sky and a prince taken from a Manga. That was World Undercroft. An androgynous avatar wrapped in an aura of magic, art and mystery.
It is undoubtedly the Björn Andrésen of Second Life, totally inspiring.

Done! I have shared with you my Top 10. Now I ask you... what do you think? Do you agree with me? Or what would be yours? Leave me your opinion in the comments and if you think I forgot someone, feel free to include them and tell us why you think they should be on the list.
Or if you would eliminate someone from the list? Tell me... Tell me!

Thanks for your time to read this servant and don't miss the next chapter, because in the Hot Roof... Many things will come to light! (Promise!)

Hasta la Vista, Avi! ;)

I have fond memories of the first days as a model and the many people I met, including the other people listed above. As SL evolves and grows and we have more options I continue to strive to be my own unique self with my own style. Thank you again for the article <3
